The word silo has turned into an unfortunate phrase for companies and organizations who is doing amazing work, but working alone. For work in the foster care system, it can be just that.
The LIGHHT Advisory Committee was created March 2nd, 2023. This committee is through the Crosby Scholars LIGHHT program and funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. The purpose of the committee was to mitigate the barriers for students who were in Crosby Scholars and in DSS custody so that they could pursue their college and career goals. Each organization was brought to the table for the purpose of either resource, support, or partnership. This eventually created a network that couldn't be contained to just students in Crosby Scholars. The LIGHHT Advisory Committee decided that Forsyth County needed a resource for all youth in-care; including foster parents and stakeholders who may not know all of the resources available to them in their own county.
